Saving the Planet

"Saving the Planet" sounds way too pretentious, but some kind of ecological responsibility is part of our evolutionary heritage. We know we "share the planet." We know we "live on the planet." And we know we "live by the planet" If Gaia goes, then we all go; so "saving the planet" is a good idea even if it is "pretentious."

Learning Durpal

Ah, managed to save some content, change the logo, add a blog, but can't figure out how to let folks add pictures to their posts -- on theme configuration it will not allow a check mark??? Any suggestions?

Some Notes of Thanks

RMP recently donated three refurbished laptops to some students at Jeremiah Rhodes Middle School, and later we gave three desktops to three other students. Here are some letters of thanks from the students who won the drawing, and RMP is humbled by their thanks and their hopes. These young people want to learn and they have plans for their futures and support from their families.

Dung Beetles and Scarabs

I find I have slighted one of the god's great recycling creatures -- not quiet as romantic as Raven, but just as useful. That would be the Dung Beetle. What creature would be a better image of recycling "one dirty piece at a time" than the Dung Beetle. It's earthy recycling practices are surely the reason the Egyptians made the Scarab a sacred image of the god Khepri, who moves the sun from night to dawn -- rolling it, I suppose, like the Dung Beetle does its ball of dung.

Inside Digital Dumping

See this photo essay on the Foreign Policy Website to learn why the Raven's Mud Project does what it does -- in order to avoid inflicting our digital waste on China, Pakistan, or Nigeria.

It is Easy being Green

Despite Kermit's song, it is easy being green. All one has to do is be aware of the impact of one's living and life-style on the environment, and then find ways to cut back. Here is a link to

CNET's resources for living green.

Or you can look at Consumer Reports Greener Choices.

Earth Charter

I was recently introduced to the United Nations Earth Charter, and I find myself wanting to let folks know about it. As the site above says:

Battery Recycling -- the Forgotten Polluter

I got a new camera and it suggests that one use rechargeable batteries; so I woke up thinking about batteries. I use a lot of them -- some rechargeable but most are not, and most of my life, I have just put them in the trash. But that is a little crazy and certainly very unreflective; so what not recycle batteries?

With just a little effort, we can keep a lot of heavy metals out of the landfills; so Raven's Mud Project is going to start recycling batteries. I am not sure what all of that means yet, but I will be reporting what I found out here.

Terrapass

My terrapass documents came today, and I got a bumpersticker, a transparent window tag for inside, and a decal for outside. I have registration cards for each certificate, and the amount and the valid dates of my carbon offset are marked. I plan to put them on the vehicles tomorrow and will report on the response thereto.....
